SECTION TWO ENGLISH EDITION VOLUME XXIV. JUNE 26, 1941 NO. 26. IÍDEPE1ÍDEM DAY Introducing AMELIA NYERS To most of our readers, Miss Nyers hardly needs more than a pictorial introduction, for few of the members have not heard the name Nyers, that very staunch and very active Verhovay family in South Bend, Indiana, and it is quite understandable why Miss Nyers is stock, lock and barrel Verhovay. Miss Nyers had done her work well as editor of the Children’s Page, which delightful page is instilling in our children’s hearts the value and significance of VERHOVAY. Besides her special task as Children’s Page editor, Miss Nyers frequently contributes her excellent poems, which are being copyrighted and have received the wholehearted approval and praise of Professor Thomas Patrick Gaynor, poet and author, book reviews, short stories, etc. Miss Nyers is a member of Branch 132, South Bend, In-It was over 150 years ago. The world was a simple place and they were simple people. That had come here to be free from oppression, and free from oppression they were going to be. They were not going to allow their tongues and their literature and their ideas to be curbed. They were not going to permit themselves to be taxed without being represented in the government that levied the taxes. So they got together and signed a declaration saying that they were through with that sort of thing and that thej* were going to be independent of any government save their own. That was on July 4, 1776. This is July 4, 1941. The world isn’t a simple place any more. People might like to lead simple lives, but they can’t, Dictatorship, bigotry, taxation without representation is the rule, rather than the exception. Independence, for many millions diana, and it is no idle statement to say that her journalistic activities have considerably enhanced the prestige of the Branch. The English Section Verhovay Journal is fortunate in having Miss Nyers as one of its few steady contributors, and there is no doubt that she is one of our best contributors. of people, is just a word without any understandable meaning. Not so for America. Today, 165 years after it was put down on paper, our Declaration of Independence is reaffirmed in the hearts of one hundred and thirty millions of us. Our government is composed of men and women chosen by us, to represent us. We may say, write, think what we please. We live in a mighty nation, a free and independent nation, an indivisible nation where there is liberty for all and justice for all. It is a good way of life. SPECIAL NOTICE Some contributors have been waiting until the last minute to send in their contributions. This delay may prevent articles from appearing in the issue for which they were intended. Kindly send in your contributions as early as possible — even before the deadline—for “first come first served.” Dare to Dream To dream and plan or not to, seems to be A question in this prosaic world today, “To weave a dream with war’s propinquity A waste of time,” you’ll hear the wise man say. But I would say, “Spin on, O dreamer bold, As step by step your plans are given birth, Build up your castles, though your heart grows cold To see them falling, crashing down to earth. For it takes courage which you have alone, To dare to help a fallen dream to rise, And you’ll be happy placing ATTENTION! CONTRIBUTORS For a very special reason, contributions intended for the July 10th issue MUST be in by the ABSOLUTE deadline of July 3d. Contributions received after July 3d shall be reserved for the second issue in said month. You are urged to send in your contributions for the July 10th issue AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE before July 3d. Two New Certificates ONE FOR ADULTS AND ONE FOR CHILDREN The Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association recently issued two new certificates for the benefit and protection of its members. The one certificate is for the members of the Senior Order; the other certificate is for the members of the Juvenile Order. The Class “G” certificate, the SENIOR TWENTY YEAR PAYMENT Y2 ENDOWMENT AND y2 PAID-UP LIFE CERTIFICATE, is for adults and is a combination endowment and twenty year payment. Members of this class shall pay their dues for twenty years, after which! y2 of the benefit will be payable in cash and the other % will be payable at time of death. The Class “G” certificate is ideal for the person who wants to be insured but collect part of his or her insurance while still living, for this certificate makes it possible to collect half the insurance during life and remain insured even after endowment has been paid out. When so-and-so takes out one of these certificates in the amount of $1000.00, he receives after the twenty years y2 or $500.00, and for the other half he receives a paid-up certificate worth $500.00, which amount will be paid to the heirs after so-and-so dies. The Class “H-J” certificate, the JUVENILE ENDOWMENT AT AGE 18 CERTIFICATE, is for children and is an endowment at age 18. Members of this class pay their dues until they reach the age of 18, after which time the benefit is payable in cash to the member. If death occurs before age 18, the benefit is paid to the beneficiary according to the table. The age of children taken up in this kind of insurance is ALWAYS based on the next birthday, which is the basis of the insurance rate, and, therefore, if a child is four years and one day old, he is five years old according to the insurance table. . The taking out of the Class “H-J” certificate indicates farsightedness and sagacity—and good common sense. When a child grows up, how many parents can afford to give the young man or young woman the higher education offered by colleges and universities? Yet that is the desire of all good parents—to give their children every opportunity to fit them for a better and more productive life than they themselves had. So for the average family—and most families are average—the best plan for the children is to take out the Class “H-J” certificate, which assures them a happy future, without worry and without despair. To succeed these days, in face of stiff and bitter competition, it is necessary to have at command a superior education, and this your children can have if you take out the Class “H-J” certificate for them. Do it NOW. For Adults: The SENIOR TWENTY YEAR PAYMENT y2 ENDOWMENT AND yz PAID-UP LIFE CERTIFICATE. For Children: The JUVENILE ENDOWMENT AT AGE 18 CERTIFICATE. stone on stone, Although it’s called a fool’s short paradise. For youth is here and gone before you know, So dream your bit, before life’s light burns low.” —Betty Carol Balega CORRECTION In the last issue, that of June 12, the by-line was unintentionally omitted from “Lovable Love Lyrics,” and should have read, By Joe Vcrgo, Branch 248, Monaville, West Virginia.
