ATTENTION! SPECIAL SPORTS NOTICE At the Directors’ Meeting held from March 17 to March 22, 1941, the following decisions was made: that the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association is an organization whose primary purpose is to give life insurance protection, and whose secondary purpose is to sponsor social and sports activities when said activities justify the primary purpose; that, therefore, the following rules and conditions relative to social and sports activities have been in effect since March 19, 1941. and that all such rules and conditions previously made are canceled. 1. In every city where there is more than one branch, the branches must band together and form a joint committee for the purpose of directing and carrying out the social and sports activities of said branches. 2. Only the petition of such joint committee can be taken into consideration by the Home Office, and such petition must have the endorsement and recommendation of the director and district organizer of the district in which petitioning committee is located. 3. In rendering social and sports assistance, such assistance is considered and acted upon only on grounds of actual increase in membership of petitioning branch or branches, and in event plea is successful, the director from the district concerned must be notified accordingly. 4. The treasurer of the committee directing joint activities must be an officer of one of the branches concerned and must be under bond. 5. New branches may receive financial assistance only in the event that they have been active for at least one year and have a membership of at least twentyfive. 6. The officers of a joint committee from branches conducting sports must se^ cure a written statement from each player to the effect that in event of injury the player can not count on any compensation from the Association at all. 7. In the issuing of amounts for social or sports activities, the Home Office shall take into consideration the actual increase in members, according to the folic wing key: After 25 members ....$150 After 40 members ....$175 After 50 members ....$225 After 75 members ....$300 Over and above this, after each actual increase of 25, a further $50 is the amount which the Home Office may issue. 8. In issuing this, the actual increase in membership is to be taken into consideration, as well as the membership of the branch a.t the close of the previous year, and in the event the membership shown at the Lime the application is made is less than the membership at the close of the previous year, then the membership shown at the time the application is made shall be taken into consideration. 9. The above resolution of the Board of Directors relates to the coming seasons. 10. The motions of the joint committees of the branches, relative to sports and social activities to be conducted during the coming winter, are to be sent in before September 1, 1941 to the Home Office, while those relative to the summer of 1942 are to be submitted before March 1, 1942, so that the Board of Directors will be enabled to carry out resolutions relative to the above on the basis of the motions received at the Sep tember as well as the March meetings of the Board.------------------o-----------------WINDBER BRANCHES FORM SPORT UNIT Acting in accordance with the revised and new sports decisions and regulations made at the recent Directors’ Meeting, Branches 33, 59 and 409, of Windber, Pennsylvania, have merged their sports life and activities into a common sport club. This committee is to arrange matters, defray expenses, settle grievances, etc. All members are urged to attend the meetings which will be held in the near future. Fraternally, LOUIS KISS, Sec’y Windber Verhovay Sport Club.------------------O-----------------SPORT FLASHES FROM BRANCH 36 Detroit, Michigan With only one game remaining to be bowled in the Detroit Verhovay Bowling League, the race for first place honors is very crucial as the Verhovay 36 boys lead Mandell’s Bar by one point only, and so anything can happen. We hope it is for the best, for the boys deserve to win by putting in a great finish in their last few games. All results of teams and individuals bowling in the Verhovay League will appear in the next issue of the Journal, and we hope it to be pleasant news. The Detroit “36” boys bowled Chicago Verhovay 164 team here in Detroit at West End Recreation, and defeated them by a total of 227 pins. They were a very scrappy bunch of bowlers. They are promising a better game when we get to Chicago on Saturday, April 26th, to bowl in a return match game. The results of the match game between Chicago 164 and Detroit 36 is as follows: Detroit Branch 36 Player 1 2 3Total M. Szopo 112158 138 408 Z. Vincent-180 202 145 527 S. Lada *139 177 174 490 Y. The Chicago team were a grand group of sports, and were genuinely sorry that the girl bowlers who appeared could not bowl a real Verhovay girls’ team. That is one thing Detroit Branch 36 does not have, but this situation will be remedied in the future. The boys from Branch 36 put in their appearance at the Detroit City Association Bowling Tournament and shot a 2575 game, which was 118 pins above average, con si dered enough to win a prize. The tournament was held at Whittier Recreation, and the scores of the bowlers were as follows: DETROIT CITY TOURNAMENT (5 Man Team) Detroit Branch 36 1 2 3Total M. Szopo 160163 190 513 Z. Vincent 153125 173 451 F. Szopko 132182 182 496 O. Petoskey 152213 169 534 K. Toth 201192 188 581 Totals 798875 902 2575 The singles and doubles for the City Tournament will be bowled Saturday, April 19th, 7:00 P. M., at' the Dearborn Recreation, and the boys will be trying very hard for some of that elusive prize money. With the coming of the baseball season, we shall try to engineer Branch 36 to promote another team, but since the expense is very high, we may decide to discontinue baseball for the coming season or promote something less costly. With the trip to Chicago in my mind, on Saturday, April 26th, I have a hard time to write any more because I am thinking of the grand time we shall have there, one phase of which •will be meeting the “debutantes” of Branch 164.
