Page 12 .Verhovayak Lapja. April 10, 1941 THE HUMOROUS =VEIN= Teaser Sweet Young Gal (in parlor)—“Mamma! Mammal Come here and make Dick stop teasing me!” Mamma (from stairway landing)—“What is he doing, dear?” Sweet Young Gal—“He’s sitting on the other end of the davenport.” * * * , Many, a man who was egged on to matrimony is now groaning beneath the yoke. * * * On The Green Harrison was proud of his golf and had brought his mother-in-law along to watch him play with a friend. “I’m particularly anxious to make a terrific drive just now,” Harrison told his friend. “There’s my motherin-law over there, and I—.” “Don’t be a fool,” said his iirend, “You’ll never hit her at 200 yards!” * * * Salesman: “Boy, I would like to see someone with a little authority.” Office Boy: “What can I do for you? I have about as little as anyone.” * * * Belated Explanation A lady having guests to dinner, told her maid to make mushroom sauce. On opening the can of mushrooms, the maid noticed a disquieting color. “Well,” said ehe lady, “put a little on some toast and give it to the dog. If he eats it, probably it’s all right.” The maid did so; and reported that the dog had lapped it up and begged for more. She was instructed io serve the sauce. All went well until the guests were having coffee, when the maid, white faced, came in and whispered to her mistress: “Oh, ma’am, the dog has just died!” There was only one thing to do—explain to the guests and call the nearest doctor to come running with his stomach pump. Eight steak and mushroom dinners were removed. Then the mistress went to the kitchen and asked the maid where the dog was. “Oh, dear,” said Mary, still in a state of distress, “he’s lying under the porch, where he was put by the man whose car hit him.” * * * Be Calm Young Mrs. Scott was attending her first ball game. The home team was doing well that day and for a time she patiently endured her husband’s transports and his brief explanations. But when, amid the cheering, howling crowd, he sprang upon his seat, waved his new straw hat three times around his head and shattered it on the fat man in front, Mrs. Scott exclaimed: “What on earth’s the matter, John?” “Why, dearie,” he answered, as soon as he could get his breath, “didn’t you see the fielder catch that ball?” “Of course,” said young Mrs. Scott disgustedly. “I thought that was what he was out-there for.” * * * Teacher: “What is the feminine of bachelor?” Student: “Er, lady-inwaiting.” * * * Step Up, Dean! The dean of a college was investigating a charge made by some of the girls that the men who lived in the fraternity house, next door, forgot to lower their shades. The dean looked out of the sorority window and said: “Why, I can’t see into any of the fraternity house windows.” “Oh, yes you can!” chorused the girls. “All you have to do is to get up on a chair.” * * * Some gals use a pill to get rid of a headache, but others use a headache to get rid of a pill. * * * The Reason Mrs. B.—“I hear your daughter is very happily . married, Dinah.” Dinah—“Yas’m. Ah’ll say she is. Her husband is skeered to death of her.” * * * “I always had a feeling that I would die young,” said the chorus girl. “And you didn’t after all, did you?” replied the girl friend.
