On the committee in charge of the dance were: Frank Ince, who arranged for the orchestra; Jack Du-Branch 364 Youngstown. Ohio Greetings and salutations! Verhovayites. The yuletide kept me in such a nervous state of activity that my days were practically twentyfour hours long; they should have been extended to thirty-six hours to fulfill my daily requirements; even at that they would probably have proven insufficient. Though it was a happy occasion to look forward to. what with sending and receiving many Christmas greeting cards, buying lights, tinsel, holly wreaths, etc., exchanging gifts among the family and friends, and a touch of dyspepsia thrown in for a good measure, I am glad now that it is all behind me, so that I can again devote more of my time to this, my self-appointed task, and look eagerly forward to the advent of the New Year, with its hopes and promises. Kriss Kringle Was, very generous to all the Verhovay members throughput the country. I was pleasantly surprised When I walked in on our gan and Steve Barany. ticket sellers; Steve Késig and Bill Fodor, ticket takers; John Barany and Joseph Ince, coat checkers; Michael Korosy and Michael Duruttya, stationed at the parking lot. The proceeds of the dance will go for the benefit of the various sports activities of the club. Fraternally, Michael Duruttya, Corresponding Secretary.--------------O-------------NOTICE to New Jersey-Pennsylvania-New York Branches For some time it has been the desire of various branches located within the abovenamed states to organize a bowling league to foster better fellowship, cooperation end sports manship among Verhovay branches, and to endeavor mutually to greater undertakings for a mightier Verhovay in the Eastern states. It is possible to create this league if only we try. The only ivay to try is to begin today, get your team together and contact Albert B. Ari, 300 Willie,m Street, Trenton, Neiv Jersey, for information and membership December meeting and found the room filled to capacity —even to overflowing. I do believe it was a record breaking group which attended this meeting, and I was very pleased. Even our dear Prez Brogley grinned approvingly from ear to ear! Although I have no intentions of setting up any self-made New Year’s resolutions for Branch 364. it would be grand if we would turn out in as large numbers at every meeting during the coming year. It would tend to make us a bigger and better organization and would make other branches sit up and take notice. In that capacity we could also achieve more, both socially and from a business standpoint. What do you say, fellow members, let’s cooperate and set a fine example! Our business meeting went smoothly, with the reelection of some of the old officers and the election of new one as well. Branch 364 hereby extends its heartiest greetings to its officers. During the evening. Prez Brogley became obsessed wittr the idea of officially electing me as publicity within the league. Already three teams are playing and are organized for the league; they are New York 394, New Brunswick 52 and Trenton 417. It is necessary to have one to three more teams. The league is to start January 15, 1941. Traveling expenses will be provided for all interested teams, if accepted. If you are a bowler get after your secretary, or any other branch officer, and ask that a team be organized in your branch. This is the only way that your officers can realize the interest and need for such a team. A team representing your branch may depend upon you. Do your bit in organizing one. Trusting I shall be able to get this league under way and to furnish you with weekly sports news, I am Fraternally yours, ALBERT B. ARI, Director.--------------O-------------BEAVER FALLS SEEKS MATCHES The Beaver Falls Bowling Team is seeking games with other Verhovay bowlers and agent. I had a little difficulty convincing him that I preferred to remain anonymous, so after some persuation he finally condescended, voting me a round of applause for my literary contributions in behalf of our branch. I got a kick out of having my friends turning to me, asking if I had any idea who the “Silhouette” could be, and I also joined in the applause for fear of detection. Nevertheless, I take this opportunity to thank all the members for their hearty ovation. My aim is no personal recognition but recognition for our branch, so I much rather prefer to remain the “hidden one.” We had our Christmas Party and gift exchange after the meeting, and from my observations, I judged everyone received practical gifts, such as ties, hankies, perfume, stationery, candy dish, ash trays, etc., just to mention a few. One of the girls, however, did have to trade her masculine gift for a more feminine one which G. O. received. The swap was made and everybody was happy. Refreshments followed in the form of delicious sandwiches and cakes, including various drinks. Our prez saw to it that we had good music, and the is open to all acceptable challenges. Maybe some of you have had similar experiences and at one time or another felt the urge to become poetic. This urge has been evasive with me for quite some time now, but on a previous occasion I penned the following: WEATHER EFFECTS When the weather’s cold and dreary, Leaden clouds rush on and on! Within your heart, you too, full-weary, Bright days seem forever gone. On a dismal, rainy day, Do you ever feel that way? I do! Then again, on a sultry day, Not a leal astir, nor a bird on wing! Idleness, like a malady, On you seems to be descending; Are you affected fust that way On a torrid summer day? I am! Comes a breezy day in early spring, When Earth awakens from her nap; And your pent-up spirits soar and sing, Like gipsy songbirds free from trap; SPORTS NOTICE FROM BRANCH 366 Cleveland, Ohio The bowling team of Branch 366 would like to book out of town games and will accept any challenge made to us. Please address communications to Bill Torda, 8702 Nevada Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio. SPORT TIMETABLE BOWLING The Bowling League of Branch 164, Chicago, Illinois, holds games every Tuesday at Monte Carlo Recreation Center, Lincoln and Beiden Avenues, beginning at 9 P. The young women bowl every Wednesday evening at Grand Alleys. * * * The Detroit Verhovay Bowling League, Detroit, Michigan, bowls every Sunday at West End Recreation, on West Jefferson and West End Avenues, beginning at 2 P. M. Do you e’er react this way On a gloriolis spring day? I do! Then Jack Frost comes with paint and brush, And snow flakes flurry through the air; You surge with throngs in their glcd rush To aid in bringing Yuletide cheer. Are you ever blithe and gay, On an ideal winter day? I am! With Father Time hobbling slowly down the paths of bygone years and Master 1941 eagerly peeping around the traditional comer, waiting to make his debut at the appointed time, there is but one wish uppermost in my mind, and that wish is for a far brighter and happier future in store for each and every Verhovayite than ever before. As for our Branch 364, I wish it greater success and hope it will carry the banner for the English speaking branches of the V. F. I. A.! Adios. THE SILHOUETTE Publicity Agent.--------------O-------------An Oregon inventor’s gasoline powered model airplane can be controlled in flight by strings leading to a control stick held by a person on the ground.
