CHICAGO DISTRICT The 55th Jubilee Celebration planned for June 22, 1941, will be the main topic of discussion at an impor- tant meeting of the Chicago District, to be held Sunday, March 30th in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Committee members of South-end Chicago and Calumet District branches are asked to meet promptly at 9:00 a. m., at 92nd and Cottage Grove Avenue, from where a chartered bus will transport the members to Milwaukee. The bus is scheduled to return at 9:00 p. m. the same day. Officers and committee members of the Chicago District ere urged to attend the meeting, as their suggestions will be necessary to complete plans for an outstanding VERHOV AY DAY. Branch secretaries are asked to report to the district secretary at this meeting the names of all members who will in any way assist at the Celebration, so that the proper position and time schedule may be assigned to each individual. None of the members, with the exception of the Jubilee officers, will be expected to ivork during the entire day. At the picnic, which is scheduled to be held June 22d at Frank’s Grove, 117th and Homan Avenue, an administration booth will be erected for the convenience of members, and a loud speaker system will be installed on a truck. Sepessy’s popular orchestra, together with the newly organized. Verhovian Orchestra composed of Branch 37 members, will provide the music for dancing. At the last meeting held at Indiana Harbor, there came to light the fact that the women of that particular Branch were very adept at preparing "Laczi Pecsenye” in the open, and that they cure supplied with the proper equipment. They have been asked to demonstrate their abilities in the culinary art at our Verhovay Day celebration. Women members of Branch 96 and 37, living nearest to the picnic grounds, will assist in the kitchen. Branch 130, with the aid of two members from each branch, has offered to conduct the bingo game. Each branch will be called upon to contribute to the entertainment a short program consisting of a skit, dancing or singing, not to exceed ten minute in length. The Membership Drive now in progress will, nö doubt, be the most important part of our Jubilee Celebration. The Chicago District has done well, but there are unlimited possibilities for improvement. At this time l cm very happy to announce that Miss Anna Bodnar, Secretary of Branch 371 in Gary, Indiana, has entered the contest. Here’s hoping she will be among the winners. It ux>uld add to the interest of the contest were more women to compete, and the worthwhile awards should be an added incentive. They are o*s follows: $250.00 in cash—first prize; $150 in cash or a refrigerator—second prize; two THIRD prizes—$100 in cash or a $150 combination radio; four FOURTH prizes —$75 in cash or a 1942 Model radio; six FIFTH prizes—$50 in cash or a $75 Rogers Silver chest; twelve SIXTH prizes of $25 in cash or a beautiful chrome kitchen set. Now whet women could truthfully say she wouldn’t like to have any of these beautiful prizes? A little time and effort on your part will bring happy results. The men have worked hard, but we would like more contestants, since some of the branches have not, as yet, entered the contest. Although the membership drive has been in progress for three months, there is still time for you to enter and compete for one of the prizes. The District Secretary, Mrs. Louis Sabo, 11934 Lowe Avenue, Chicago, Illinois, is waiting to hear from you. Don’t forget our next meeting, Sunday, March 30th, in Milwaukee! Until then, I remain Fraternally, MRS. LOUIS SABO, District Secretary.--------------—O----------------BRANCH 395 McKeesport, Pennsylvania As it may not have escaped the members’ notice, the social life of Branch 395 during the past year has been practically nil. But at our latest meeting on February 11th the proverbial worm turned—and with a vengeance. President John Szabo’s proposed plan for a new social calendar met with the enthusiastic acclaim and wholehearted approval of all present. Even the most skeptical were favorably impressed, to say the least. To commemorate the anniversary of our branch, we shall hold a banquet,'and the committee in charge, headed by Alex Goydan, consists of Albert Jozik, Helen Ganyu, Elizabeth Norman and your obedient servant. Also, the branch planned a bowling party for Tuesday, March 25th, to usher out the bowling season in style. For the benefit of those members, good and true, who pay their dues regularly but never come to the meetings for any other reason, I should like to suggest that they stick around awhile and see what goes on. You may have done that in the past and, finding nothing stirring, turned towards home again, but I can assure you that you will find things looking up, and with Mrs. Norman hovering in the background, you can always be sure of delicious refreshments. Let me say that a branch is, no bigger than the members 'of which it is composed, so the success of our new program depends upon your regular attendance and cooperation. And then too, there’s that lunch. Fraternally yours, Your Publicity Agent.------------------O------------i---BRANCH 90 NOTICE Allentown, Pennsylvania On Sunday, April 20, 1941, beginning at. 7:00 p. m., in the Hungarian Hall, 520 Union Street, Branch 90 will hold a Chicken Supper.
