Page 8 March 27. 1941 Verhovayak Lapja ♦ SPORT PAGE Sportsmen: The SPORT PAGE is devoted to the publication of the athletic and sports activities of our members and should be made the most of. Although the SPORT PAGE may be considered the men’s page, which for obvious reasons it largely is, it is open also—and with enthusiastic welcome— to the sports-minded girls and women of our Verhovay. Every Verhovay athletic or sports contest or achievement, whether by a branch or by an individual member, should find its way to our SPORT PAGE, without fail and in preference to any other publication. SPORT FLASHES FROM BRANCH 36 Detroit, Michigan The proposed- Verhovay Bowling Congress, which should include every Verhovay bowling team in each city, does, not seem to be getting much attention. I know there should be a Verhovay team in each city, so why can’t we have our own A. B. C. such as every other well-known organization? This would not amount to much financially, except the trip to the selected site of the proposed Congress, which should be Pittsburgh. There have been only three branches in favor of it as yet, South Bend.432, Dearborn 429 and Detroit 36. But we should receive replies from our Eastern and Western teams. Contact me by renting to the address beloiv: so we can put this over during the month of May, as then the weather will be more suitable for traveling. The Verhovay Bowling League of Detroit has only five more weeks, and the results to date are as follows: Standing of Verhovay Bowling League as of March 16, 1941 Team WL Pins Pt. We were prepared to meet them, and are sorry the match game did not take place. The Detroit Verhovay Bowling Team of Branch 36 is preparing for the invasion of the bowlers from Chicago Branch 164, who will appear here in Detroit to bowl on Sciurday, April 5th, 7:30 p. m., at West End Recreation, corner of West End and West Jefferson Avenues. The Verhovay Bowling League is scheduled to oowl in the Detroit City Tour: ament on Easter Sunday, April 13th, 8:00 p. m., at Whittier Recreation. This tournament is for over the average teams, and the Ver hovay Leage has sever teams entered in it. Wishing every team good luck in the City Tournament, and hoping each and every one of our teams will walk away with some reword, I remain Fraternally yours in sports, FRANK A. SZOPKO Publicity Agent. 8556 Vanderbilt Avenue Detroit, Michigan. BRANCH 366 SPORTS NOTICE The Cleveland Verhovay Bowling Team wishes to thank the Alliance Verhovay Bowling Team, and their friend, for the splendid time they showed us at our bowling match, March 9, 1941. Mike Korosy of Alliance was top man on their side and Zoltán Szabó for the Cleveland side. A rubber 'game will again be played in Alliance because Mike lost the flip of the coin. Those Alliance girls had our boys dazed for several days. The boys could talk of nothing but the comely girls.
