The Detroit No. 1 Team was badly defeated by the South Bend No. 1 Team, and the result was 220 pins. Joseph Nagy, Jr., starred for the victors, with 646 series, while Kenneth Toth of Detroit had 568. The Detroit No. 2 Team was scheduled to bowl the No. 2 Team, but due to unforeseen circumstances the So. Bend Verhovay Branch 432 Women’s Team was substituted, and the Detroit boys were victors by 124 pins. The breaks did not appear for the women, who put up a good game, or the results would have been changed. Joe Lorincz starred for Detroit, with a series of 541, and Mary Freshley for South Bend, with 485. The results of the game and the scores are as follows: South Bend Verhovay 432 1 2 3 Total J. You have a beautiful Verhovay home, with members that cooperate with one another, young or old, to create an inspiring fraternal order. We can not say this for our branch. We have to work often ourselves, with little or no help from the other members. Our cooperation here is very limited. Our sporting activities are not enjoyed by all the members, and the Detroit Verhovay teams do not have their Verhovay rooters as the South Benders do. This situation must be remedied else the young element will despair of Verhovay and go elsewhere to enjoy itself. We have been discussing a Verhovay Bowling Congress, but no word has been received from any Verhovay team outside South Bend. This Congress would benefit the Verhovay name and could be held annually in a different city. Prizes would be given away, and the entry fee would be small so as to get the Congress started. All bowling teams interested please contact me at the address below. The Detroit Verhovay Branch 36 Bowling Team will bowl the Cleveland Verhovay Branch 366 Bowling Team here in Detroit on Sunday, March 16th, 4:00 p. m., to be bowled at the West End Recreation, West End and West Jefferson Avenues. Awaiting your replies concerning the proposed Verhovay Bowling Congress, I remain Fraternally yours in sports, Frank A.
