The unwelcome news was sent to the writer by Mr. Kovács, their team captain, in his letter of February 17th. Mr. Kovács explained that circumstances prevented active participation, and I am sure we will all miss their good fellowship and friendly competition. We expect to see them in there fighting next year. A meeting of team captains vili take place in a week or two. At that time we will discuss a probable revision of future schedules, caused by Allentown’s withdrawal. Fraternally, J. Fraternally, THE REPORTER, Publicity Agent.--------------O—---------The Johnstown Junior Branch 439 held its first rifle practice on February 6th at the Conamaugh Rifle Club, with six members in attendance. The Conamaugh Rifle Club has approved our using their rifle range whenever we get together. We furnish our own ammunition and they furnish the rifles, until we can get our own outfit. So far we have held four practices, and the members are getting more used to the guns. We hope to publish our scores soon, but now our scores are too low, altho we have three members who have from 50 to 60 from a possible 100. Children’s Page (Continued from Page 10) handed down from generation to generation. Tribal celebrations were happy occasions. Many songs and dances entertained the people of various tribes. The Buffalo Dance was performed by a maid and a young man, who imitated buffaloes. There was a Wolf Dance and a Pipe Dance of the Corn Festival. For this occasion one half an ear of corn was painted blue to represent the sky. Earth is portrayed by the remaining white grains. Chief Take-Blanket-Away told his sons how the seven clans were named and the manner in which they were united. His small sons were eager to listen to his stories concerning the first Peace Pipe and its purpose in the life of the Indian. It was always with reluctance that they followed Fo-too Yeo, the Sleep Man, into the land of dreams. Chief Take-Blanket-Away is the last chief of the Otoe tribe. Today he lives on a reservation, far away from the open prairie of his youth. His sons are grown now, but they remember with joy the many happy festivals of their childhood. These memories they cherish. The beautiful legends of Indian Sleep Man Tales were told to Bernice G. Anderson, by Chief Meeway-seh. The illustrations are by the author, Bernice G. Anderson, and Frank Sears. The Southern California Daily Trojan, Los Angeles, California, writes that—“The most important work done on this side of the Mississippi in the advancement of contemporary literature comes from the Caxton Press up in Idaho.” Kidneys Must Clean Out Acids Excess acids, poisons and wastes in your blood are removed chiefly by your kidneys.
