Oscar Petoskey of Detroit and Joseph Nagy, Jr., of South Bend starred for their respective teams. Freshley214 150175 539 J.Sayer 178157 200 535 946731 977 2654 The South Benders were royally entertained in our club rooms, where we had a party in their honor; also for Mr. Zoltán Vincent who had his ? birthday. So between traveling ^rom orr club ro ms to the Verhovay banquet ard dance which were held in the Verhovay Hall for the 1940 Contest winners, the South Benders enjoyed themselves very much. They are a great gang of sportsmen with the real Verhovay fraternal spirit We have scheduled a return match with the boys from South Bend and have them booked for Sat'S day, March 1st, 7:30 p. m., at South Bend. We are out to avenge that first defe it pinned on us by any Verhovay team. The Detroit Verhovay Branch 36 Bowling Team has also scheduled the following out of town teams: Sunday, March 16th, 4:00 p. m.—At Detroit—Cleveland Verhovay 366. Saturday, April 5th, 7:30 p. m.—Ai Detroit—Chicago Verhovay 164. Saturday, April 26th, 7 30 p. m.—At Chicago—Detroit Verhovay 36. There are still a few matches with out of town Verhovay teams not yet completed, bit as soon as our dates for our annual Detroit City Association Tournament are chosen, we will complete our schedule with the other Verhovay teams and publish them in a later issue. An idea which was fostered* by the Detroit bowlers for so long has been getting results: to sponsor a Verhovay National Bowling Congress, to be held open to all Verhovay bowling teams, and bowl in a different city each year. This tournament would decide the best Verhovay team and would put no team to much expense. We have back of us the teams of South Bend, Dearborn and Lorain, which heartily approve of this venture. After all, every big organization has its tournament, so there is no reason why Verhovay should be an exception. This tournament would be held in Pittsburgh the first year, as that is where the Home Office is located, and other cities would vie for the tournament the following years. So let’s have some suggestions and let’s put this idea across before the bowling season is over. Fraternally yours in sports, FRANK A. SZOPKO, Publicity Agent. 8556 Vanderbilt Avenue Detroit, Michigan.--------------O-------------ALLIANCE DEFEATS CLEVELAND Although they lost two out of three games, the Alliance bowlers still took the victory home from Cleveland on February 16th. VAUGHT, League Secretary. DIRECTOR ARI ORGANIZES EASTERN BOWLING LEAGUE Surmounting all obstacles and snags with typical Magyar energy and thoroughness, Director Albert B. Ari, with a loyal group of Verhovay sports enthusiasts, recently successfully organized the Verhovay Tri-State Bowling League, constituting the states of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and at present made up of New York, New Brunswick, Franklin, Allentown, Manville and Trenton. According to Director Ari’s own words, “this pioneeringin organizing such a movement has caused many branches throughout this region to take notice, and I am sure that within a short time dormant branches will take on activity in this nature. This organized league is the first of its kind among Hungarian American undertakings in the East, and I can assure you that it will take on momentum day by day. Already games have been played and interest is on the mount, spectators are increasing and branches are making inquiries to join up with the league.” The above warm words of the Director smack of real confidence. It is hoped that this success will encourage our other branches to follow suit speedily.--------------O-------------BEAVER FALLS SEEKS MATCHES The Beaver Falls Bowling Team is seeking games with other Verhovay bowlers and is open to all acceptable challenges.
