November 28, 1940 Verhovayak DEARBORN HIGHLIGHTS La pja_____________ TOPS IN STYLE Page 8 It’s been a long time since the Dearborn Branch has been heard from, but we are still in existence, though in hibernation. This is the season of the year when we blossom out with ideas and social events. Let’s see what the calendar of events yields to date. * * * The most important coming event is the annual meeting when new officers are elected and new ideas submitted. The meeting will take place on Sunday, December 15, 1940 (the third Sunday of the month), at 2:00 p. m. sharp, at the SUGAR BOWL, corner of Salina and Lowrey, opposite the Salina School. This being the most important meeting of the year, all members are urged to bt present. Those members who are in arrears with their dues will please make every effort to bring them up to date. Refreshments will be served after the meeting, as has been the custom at these annual meetings. REMEMBER, ANNUAL MEETING SUNDAY, DECEMBER 15, 1940. AT 2:00 P. M. PLEASE ATTEND! * * * A tentative idea has been suggested by the Entertainment Committee. A Christmas Party in the form of a Fish Supper and Card Party has been planned either for a Friday or Saturday evening the week before Christmas. The date will be set at the meeting November 24th and will be published in the Journal for the coming three weeks. Be on the lookout for details of this affair. When final arrangements have been made, you will be notified through the Journal and also by mail, in time to remind you to be present. * * * Several of the younger members have suggested that we have a bowling party (both sexes) at some future date. We could all go bowling and later drop in at some eating place and partake of refreshments. Sounds good. I know we can count on at least 10 members. * * * Several social events have occurred of late that should be known by the members. Two of our members married, twins have been bom, etc. Mary Horvath, of the Holly Street Horvaths, married Steve Horvath. She was given away by Steve Horvath and her father also was Steve H o r v a t h—rather complicated. There is a girl whose name wasn t changed by marriage. Alexander Bercheny married a young lady from Ohio, whose name to date I haven’t heard A1 was married the same day as Mary, September 28th. Joseph Lriszlo was to be married the same day, but due to the sudden serious illness of his mother, the bappy event was postponed to a later date. Mrs. Joseph László has now recuperated and is convalescing at her home amidst her children and a brand new granddaughter, born to Mr. and Mrs Oliver László, in September. Twins were born to Mrs. Irene Alsobrook (nee Zaker), and I’m happy to say they are the latest Verhovay members. Other new’ nembers are, Zoltán Varga, Louis Baki, Jr. and Grace Soos, and among the Juveniles are Marlene Tatar (whose grandmother paid in several years dues on a 20 pay life certificate as a birthday present), Robert Markotan an», the Alsobrook twine. That’s aboul all for the present. * * * I rather like the idea of a Round Table meeting, but it makes it difficult for those contributors not residing in the trislate area to be present in person. What has become of “Dirk’Fulop, whose satirical writings were the one thing that held my interest from issue to issue? I have tried, v’ith failure to date to satirize on several subjects i guess my education hasn’t been sufficiently completed for me tc indulge in this spicy venture Also, I note with pleasure that Branch 366 is back in circulation again, with a new publicity man at the helm. I still miss my old feudin’ partner, Joseph J. Horvath, and it seems a pity that he let himself be talked out of continuing his pleasant reporting. In my opinion, news of the branches and the branch members still continues to be the most important contribution to the revised Journal. I miss the carefree discussions given by contributors to each other. Through these messages that were given to each other friendship had been formed and a feeling of knowing one another. I never had the pleasure of meeting any of the contributors except “Mystrieky,” but it seemed as though I knew them all. I had pictures in my mind of their various personalities and each issue was a pleasant surprise. (I rather expect I’ll hear about these personal opinions of mine, but I can take it—and I’ll be looking forward to same.) * * ♦ NOTICE OF CHANGE OF ADDRESS: The new address of the secretary of Branch 429 is 2522 Carson Street, Detroit, Michigan. Telephone Vinewood 1-8779. Kindly see that dues and other business is referred to this address. * * * With due apology for my lengthy chatter, I still remain THE FERRET. •--------------O----------L E T T Y By “TREB” HAGAN Branch 430 Homestead, Pa. ’ know a girl named Letty She has that light brown hair. Learn to like people, even though some of them may be as different from you as a Chinese. Learn to like to work and enjoy the satisfaction of doing your job as well as it can be done. Learn to like the song of the birds, the companionship of dogs, and laughter and gaiety of children. Learn to like gardening, carpentering, puttering around the house, the lawn, and the automobile.
