Verhovayak Lapja, 1937. július-december (20. évfolyam, 27-53. szám)
1937-12-30 / 53. szám
December 30, 1937. FAGE 1f EARLY It would no doubt be extremely difficult to find out just exactly who it was that first said, “the early bird gets the worm.” Nevertheless, the fact that a great many people believe in -this adage is proven by the number of our members announcing their intention of partaking in our newest membership contest, this early in the proceedings. Usually in matters of this nature, there is a sudden and furious spurt of activity and energy in the beginning gradually dying down till near the end and then another sudden burst. Now, however, the steadily increasing interest manifested by our members in tire contest, will not go forward by fits and starts but will be a steadily increasing volume till the very end. We have published in the Journal, the names' of the “early birds” that is, those who have already announced their intention of entering the contest. While “it is never too late to mend,” still, the sooner one begins the greater chance one has of working and the longer time one has at his disposal. I don’t suppose that there is a member of the Verhovay, who has read the descriptions published in the Journal, of the sensations, thrills and feelings experienced by our contest winners of last year, during their trip to Hungary. I am of the opinion that very few of our members, upon reading these articles of one and another of the winners, describing their trips, don’t thrill to the thought of how it would feel to be in the shoes of these winners. Why dream and .yearn? ACT! The way is clear before anyone coveting such a tr'ip for themselves. It is not at all difficult. There are innumerable contests advertised every day, for this and that prize, but usually, you must buy something in order to be able to take part in the contest. Not in this one, however. You do not have to buy anything. You do not have to pay for anything. In fact, in addition to the round trip ticket given to the winners, they are paid the regulation commission after new members. Have you ever heard of a more liberal contest? If you wish to be honest, you will admit that you have not. What is necessary to join in the round trip ticket contest? Merely that you be a member of the Verhovay and BIRDS that you announce your intention of taking part in the contest to Mr. Darago, the Supreme President. That is all. Then you go ahead and work and show the stuff of which you are made. And above all things, don’t say “I CAN’T.” Have you tried it already? If you have not, then do so. After you have secured your first new member and have ceceived credit for him, you will not believe yourself and will ask yourself, “why, what have I been hesitating about” — “there is nothing to it.” All you need is the desire to work and succeed, a little patience and a little perseverance, and a little assistance on the part of either the Supreme Officers or the District organizer with friendly advice and directions. The contest, of 1936 was such a success, that the Board of Directors in their wisdom have increased the number of winners from twenty-five to fifty. This should serve as another boost. Since there are twice as many to be given the chance of travelling to Hungary as there were last year. As you no doubt know, the contest began on October 1, 1937 and is in a manner of speaking, to be conducted in two groups. In one group will be the contestants of thirty-five years or younger and in the other group will be those of thirtysix or over. So you see, there is' really a very negligible age limit as is the case in other contests, where you must be either over or under a certain age in order to be eligible. The contest of the older and younger group will end on May 31, 1938 and this group will be under the Aving of Director Albert B. Ari. The younger group will have the added attraction and pleasure of having as companion and mentor on their travels the extremely popular and genial Supreme President of the Verhovay, Mr. Joseph Darago. There are not many rules and regulations in connection Avith this contest. In order to refresh your memory, here is a brief outline. It is necessary that the contestant be a member of the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association, and that the contestant announce his intention of becoming a contestant, to the Home Office A form provided for that purpose, should be sent in to the Home Office for every new member secured by the =l^rwvayok^p/a— contestant. The contestant should see to it that the neAV member secured by him, pays in either six or twelve monthly dues, as only in this way, will the proper credit be secured. Look around you, among your relatives, friends, and acquaintances. If you will just keep your eyes and ears open and avail yourself of opportunities, you will be surprised yourself, at the number of prospective members whom you Avill discover in your immediate neighborhood. And, if you explain to your friends and relatives your hopes and desires, where is the affectionate and loving aunt, uncle, brother, sister, father, mother, grandma or grandpa, that Avill deny you their co-operation and ready compliance Avith your request. And if you ha\re been industrious and persevering, then just think, next Summer, as the case may be, you set sail on the “Europa” the floating palace, the dream ship, to be deposited on arrival, in Hungary and Europe for a taste of earthly paradise and a Avhole lifetime full of thrills, sights and sensations, never to be forgotten. Do any of our members need further instigation? I don’t think so, and judging from the response to the nervs of the contest, the urging and reminding of the members to take part in the contest is utterly superfluous. They do so of their OAvn accord upon hearing the neAvs of another contest. Any and all time and energy Avhich you may expend will be more than Avorth your while when you live through such a grand and glorious times and experiences as our former contestants had. So on with the work, and may success crown the efforts of each Avorthy contestant. We are nearing the end of the third month of our Contest and at present writing, the following are taking part in it. In the first group: Andrin Helena Mrs. 96-ik fiók, Chicago, 111.
