Tekintettel arra, hogy sok tagtárs benne van már az előrehaladott életkorban, orvosra többször van szüksége s a mai pénztelen világban nagy szó az, ha 2 dollár helyett esak 50 centet kell az orvosnak fizetni, — ennélfogva ezen ügyben dönteni kell. TRENTON, N.J. 13-ik fiók DETROIT, MICH 388-ik fiók A Magyar Vörös-Kereszt Egyesület javára gyűjtést rendez úgy a 13-ik fiók, mint a 417-ik ifjúsági osztály vezetésével -Molnár Ferenc, a 13-ik fiók elnöke és Ari Béla Verhovay igazgató felügyelete alatt s igy csatlakozott ama fiókhoz, akik megindították már ezt a jótékonycélu, szép mozgalmat. Egyben közhírré teszi a fiók vezetősége, hogy december hó 5-ikén, vasárnap a szokott időben a trentoni Magyar Otthon 2-ik szánni termében megtartja évzáró közgyűlését, mely egyúttal tisztviselőválasztó nagy gyűlése is lesz. A little after Midnight several tugs went into action and by the time all the ropes were made fast it was night on 12:30 A.M. Then, after a few short blasts from the siren we felt a motion. A roar went up from the crowd. At last, with the orchestra playing wildly, people shouting and cheering, waving handkerchiefs and hats, we slipped out into midstream. As we moved quietly down the Hudson River with Jersey on our right and New York on our left, it seemed as though we being transformed into a different world. At 1 :00 A.M. we passed the Battery and as I took one last look at New York, I could see the skyline dimly outlined in the darkness of the night. Well, I wouldn’t see New York for two months but I didn’t care because ahead of me was a trip that would be filled with exciting adventure. It was after 2:00 A.M. that we finally decided to go below and retire for the night. I opened my porthole window and after bidding Kal a cheery goodnight, I jumped in bed with thoughts of awakening next morning and finding myself far out at sea. I had some difficulty in falling asleep because of the excitement of the sailing and thoughts of the morrow pressing in my mind. Life on Board Ship” I awoke the next morning anxious to begin life aboard the S. S. Europa, a modern floating palace. I hadn’t slept very long and to make matters worse, the clock was turned one hour ahead. I found myself experiencing the loss of one hour’s sleep 'each night. I peered out of my porthole window and saw nothing but water. The sea was very calm — it appeared smooth as glass. A half hour later, accompanied by several of the boys, I went to the Chief Steward and was assigned to a table. Kal and I were rather fortunate insofar as we were placed with three charming young ladies. After our initial breakfast aboard ship, we all went up on deck to play some interesting games, including deck tennis, which consisted of throwing a rubber disc back and forth across a net —: shuffle board, shoving round wooden discs across the deck — and the well known game of Ping Pong. When we tired of these games, we lolled around in our deck chairs, spinning “yarns” and taking part in a general “gab” fest. Our boat left a wide swath of foam in its Wake, the propellers continually churning the water and always advancing us closer to our goal. I separated myself from the group and went in search of Captain O. Scharf. Although not permitted access to Tourist and Cabin Classes, fifteen minutes later I was walking along the promenade and sun decks, but alas! I could not locate Captain Scharf. I searched for him in the aft of the ship and then I made my way towards the fore-deck. Here my entrance was blocked by an iron gate with a “No Admittance” sign on it. I easily vaulted this barrier and soon found myself on the Bridge where the Captain’s headquaters was located. Coming up the front of the bridge, I looked up at a door and read “Kapitan.” I was in the right place. The door was slightly ajar. I knocked, and as no one answered, I boldly pushed the door open and stepped in. I found myself in a thickly carpeted hallway. Close by was a door, fully open, so I walked to it and looked in. There was a group of men scanning various charts and amongst them was a tall, well-built man, wearing a uniform, the sleeves of which contained four golden bars. I immediately singled him out as Captain Scharf. I met him and after receving his autograph, he introduced me tö his officers who, upon being introduced, quickly snapped their heels together and bowed from the waist, with an energetic handclasp completing the introduction. (To be continued) UNEMPLOYMENT CENSUS PITTSBURGH, PA. — While the unemployment census is being taken November 16th to November 20th within Pittsburgh’s city limits it will also be taken in each of the Boroughs in the Pittsburgh area. The Burgesses and Borough Managers have each been notified individually from the Headquarters of the National Unemployment Census in Washington, D.C. and at present they are conducting educational programs just as Mayor Scully’s committee, headed by Dr. James L. Greene is doing. Even the smallest Boroughs will be thoroughly combed and checked in order to have all those either partially or totally unemployed fill out the “Report Cards” and mail them back to the Postmasters of their Boroughs not later than midnight of November 20th. Unemployment census cards will be delivered only to the individual’s home. None will be delivered to business addresses, so if you reside outside of Pittsburgh, the unemployement card will reach you only at your home. A check-up made yesterday of the work that is now being done by the Mayors, Burgesses and Borough Managers outside of Pittsburgh city limits reveals that extensive educational work is in progress. The chief concern of the Government in Washington is that these unemployment “Report Cards” are properly filled out in the case of each individual. With an accurate tabulation at hand, the Unemployment Census Heads in Washington will analyze the “Report Cards” from each city and section and thus be in a position to act from the faets at hand. Those living in all Boroughs in the Pittsburgh area, wishing information in regard to the filling , out of the unemployment “Report Cards” are urged to inquire at the Borough office or in the special Information Booths which have been set up in many of these localities. Remember, the cards will be delivered by the post man to each home in each Borough, commencing Tuesday morning, November 16th. These should be dropped in the mail to be returned to their Borough not later than midnight, November 20th.
