6-ik oldal 1937 november 4 ELISMERŐ ÉS KÖSZÖNŐ LEGELEK HORVÁTH MARGITKA, Plymouth, Mich.-bői és BUZOGÁNY MIHÁLY Alliance, Ohio-ból igen szép, hosszú leveleket írtak be szerkesztőségünkbe. — --------o--------SCRANTON, PA. 174-ik fiók Tagtársi szeretettel értesítjük a Scranton, Pa. 174-ik fiókhoz tartozó helybeli tagtársakat, hogy NOVEMBER 7-ÉN tartandó havi gyűlés “rendkivüli” gyűlés lesz. A tagszerzési verseny, a fiók baseball csapatának munka-programja lesz megbeszélve. — Úgyszintén a Verhovay Igazgatóságunk határozatának értelmében, Daragó kp. elnök urnák, női tagjainkhoz való felhívása a Hazai Vörös Kereszt megsegítése érdekében fog tárgyaltatni és valami formában elintéztetni. Más igen fontos ügyek is tárgyalva lesznek, miért is a tagtársak megjelenését kéri a fiók vezetősége. ELLWOOD CITY, PA. 141-ik fiók Novemberi rendes gyűlése a szokott időben és helyen lesz megtartva s azon fontos ügyek lesznek letárgyalva, miért is a tagtársak szives megjelenését annál is inkább kéri a fiók ügykezelője, mert ezen a gyűlésen lesznek az osztalékok is kifizetve. “A Verhovay Itinerary” I have just returned from abroad. I spent two months traveling in . Europe, and these two months could not have been better spent, for I now realize the significance of that old truism — that travel is broadening, It affords a traveler a better insight into life and prepares him for a full, rich life at home. It is an opportunity to study different people, their habits, their customs, their culture, their past and their present, and admire the i r architecture, their countries’ scenic charms. To sum it up in a few words, it is an education. But come, I must begin my begin my story, and I trust you will remain with me in my wanderings. Since the days when I wore short “pants” and went to grade school, I have always dreamed of the day when I might make a trip to Europe, to Budapest and the Hungarian countryside. The fulfillment of this dream was one of my greatest ambitions, for it would acquaint me with the country from which ray parents emmigrated some forty years ago; it would enable me to re-establish old family ties; it would enable me to see how “the other half of the world lives,” and last but not least, it would enable me to see some of the cultural treasures and beauties of the ancient Hungarian democracy. Therefore, when Mr. Cincel, District Supervisor, called to my attention the contest which was then being sponsored by the Verhovay F. I. Association, I immediately enrolled. Here, thought I, was the opportunity to fulfil my ambition of visiting Budapest and Hungary, as well as seeing other parts of the world. Without delay, I began working with Mr. Cincel, the thought of winning a roundtrip to Budapest always foremost in my mind. After several months of interesting and fascinating work, during which time prospects were interviewed, policies written and payments-collected, the contest came to an end. I eagerly awaited the results of the contest. Soon the winners would be notified. Several weeks passed and then I received a telegram signed by our worthy President, Mr. Joseph Darago, informing me that I had won, and instructing me to prepare for the trip. I was overjoyed! Here was the By: Wililam C. Kohut opportunity I had been longing for — the fulfillment of a life-long dream come true! I was to sail July 23rd from New York — our goal was to be Budapest, the Fairy City on the Danube. I spent some time in preparation for the long journey. My relatives in Hungary and Czecho-Slovakia were notified of my coming; my passport was received from Washington, D.C.; my wardrobe trunk was carefully packed and shipped to the pier in New York, and other details attended. I paid my respects at the Verhovay offices. My relatives and friends in and around Homestead were bid goodbye, and then a big Farewell Surprise Party was tendered by my fellow members of St. Elias Choral Club. Boy! What excitement! I also calmed one young lady, who was fearful that I would take the holy “vow” with some Magyar lass beside me. I told her not to worry as I believed myself strong enough to withstand the Magyar girls. Finally the day arrived when I had to leave Homestead on a journey that would take me some four thousand miles away from home — to the land of my forbears, Hungar y. On Thursday morning, July 22, 1937, Mr. Kalman Erdeky, whom I will hereafter call “Kal” and another Verhovay winner, called at my home in his sedan. After having helped me pack my luggage in the car, we were ready to leave. I hurriedly rushed up the steps of my home and entered to take leave of my parents. It was very difficult, but I finally managed to bid the family goodbye. I took my seat in the car and with Kal at the wheel, we were soon under way. There was no turning back now. We were on our way. We left Pittsburgh at nine o’clock that morning and after an eleven hour drive which took us across Pennsylvania’s pietur esque “Alleghenies”; through the State Capital at Harrisburgh, and thence through Allentown and Bethlehem, into the state of New Jersey. We spent the night in New Brunswick. We left at eleven o’clock in the morning, and within an hour’s time, New York’s famous skyline came into view! (To be continued)--------o--------ATTENTION! !— MEMBERS! ! CHICAGO, ILL. BRANCH 398 Your regular monthly meeting was called for Friday evening, October 22nd at 8 P.M., at the residence of Mr. Joseph Irocky at 723 N. Sawyer Street. I was invited to the meeting and looked forward with great pleasure to meeting all of you and had made plans to have one of you enter our contest to win one of the free tickets to Hungary. Only three members were present. Namely, Miss Elsie Soo, Miss Margaret Irocky and Mr. Joseph Irocky. Mr. Géza Marossy was also present as a guest and was very much interested in the Verhovay doings, in fact we hope that in a short time he will attend the meetings as a new member and become a leader of Branch 398. I don’t know whether if was lack of interest or other more important business which kept the members away from the meeting. I hope very much that at the next regular monthly meeting, the members of the Branch will all be there without exception. ON NOVEMBER 19th, FRIDAY EVENING, THE BRANCH WILL HAVE A BUNCO PARTY. No member should be absent and everyone should invite friends and neighbors to the party. I advise the members of Branch 398 to get together, get acquainted and become good friends because this is the only way to make Branch 398 one of the important pillars of the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association. By the way, those absent at the meeting on October 22nd, missed a wonderful treat, for Mrs. Irocky served tasty home-made tortes, cakes and coffee. Fraternally yours, Lorant Gyorffy Dist. Manager BRANCH 477 NILES, O. This is I. M. Nosey, speaking — the mystic one, w!|o sees all, hears all and tells everything. Since this is my first attempt, I hope it is a success. At our dance on October 16th, everyone young and old, had a good time. The committee in charge sure made themselves proud by making the affair such a complete success. DID ANYONE notice how busy Mr. Monos was, running up and down the stairs? It’s no wonder he didn’t have vim enough to dance! JULIA NYAKO sure did do a splendid job of checking, even if the young fellows were hanging around. How do you do it, Julia? Why don’t you give the hoys a break? And did you notice how often the ticket collectors were changed? The boys must have got their share of dances there! The girls selling, flowers had quite a bit of competition from one of the opposite sex, • who tried to show them up. .What’s wrong girls, did it end in a draw? I thought that doctor’s orders are supposed to be doctor’s orders MARY NYRE. Did the music get the best of you or couldn’t you resist the hoys? I hear the dry cleaners had quite a job, Sally. Next time have him wear his overalls. What do you think of the orange and black color scheme which the decorating committee used to dress the ballroom up in its Sunday best? I believe that they should be elected to do the job again. How about it? It was too bad that two of our good-looking girls could not attend. That’s alright MARGARET and SADIE. Make up for it at our next dance. A couple of days later a general check-up was made. At the meeting GRACE BACOS and HELEN BAKO seemed to be in an awful rush. What’s wrong girls, wouldn’t the boys wait a little longer? DON’T FORGET MEMBERS, OUR REGULAR MEETING IS TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 7th AT THE HOME OF MR. MONOS. Our Secretary has informed me that it’s to be an important meeting, so if you want to know what’s going on, you’d better be there. So-long ‘till I find some more news. I. M. Nosey DON’T BE FOOLISH! WHY DELAY? Do you want your family to receive this double indemnity insurance? CLEVELAND, O. FALL FROLIC Held by English Branch 366 of the Verhovay F. I.
