September 30, 1937 VfrhovayJournal PAGE T| MINUTES SEPTEMBER 13, 1937 BRANCH 366. Cleveland, Ohio. The meeting was called to order at 8:45 P. M. by Branch President Balazs. The previous meeting’s minutes were read and accepted. Miss Gizella Merk and Mr. Joseph Simko made a report. It was accepted. Everyone had a good time. We received invitations from a number of clubs to banquets which are being held during the coming month. One invitation was from the “Woodmen of the World”, but as Branch 14 is having a “Wine Festival”, we cannot attend their banquet. Miss Irene Kovács is to send a letter of regret for being unable to attend the “Woodmens’” banquet. She also will take care of the donation. Another invitation was for September 26th. At this Banquet, Branch 366 will be represented by Branch President Balazs and Branch Vice-President Miss Elsie Kolozsvary. Branch 361 of Cleveland will hold their banquet on September 19th, Mr. Paul Bolesic of Branch 366 and Recording Secretary Miss Julia Alak, will represent the Branch, there. As there are only two more Sundays left during September, it was decided to postpone our trip to Pitts burgh until sometime in October. The day has not as yet been decided upon. I wish to thank Mr. Alexander J. Goydan, Secretary of Branch 395 of McKeesport, for his kind invitation in connection with our trip to Pittsburgh. We have a few new members, among them Mr. Kovach and Miss Lukacs. We are glad to have them with us. Mr. A. E. Thomas, District Manager, introduced a number of the out-of-town organizers visiting in Cleveland. We sincerely hope that they had a nice time while with us. It was decided ,upon to purchase a filing cabinet for our Secretary, Miss Irene Kovács.Our Treasurer, Miss Helen Veres, resigned her position on her physician’s orders. We were very sorry to accept *■ her resignation. Mr. Michael Bokeny was elected to the position of Treasurer, to take Miss Veres’ place. Miss Helen Veres read the Treasurer’s report and it was accepted in its entirety. BRANCH 395. McKEESPORT, PA. HONORS MEMBERS. WERHOVAY ORCHESTRA OF POCAHONTAS, VIRGINIA The worthy activities of this Orchestra secured a really brilliant name for our Associaiton. The Verhovay Orchestra broadcasts every Saturday at 5:30 P.M. from radio station WHIS in Bluefield, W. VA. The organization of this clever band and its immediate success is to be credited to the effort of DIRECTOR ANDREW DOBOS, Jr., of Pocahontas, Va. On the above photograph are the members of the orchestra with their several musical instruments. They are, from right to left: Alexander Erdey, Joseph Danko, Leader; John Tatrai, Manager as well as Secretary of Branch 423 of Pocahontas, Va., John Danko, Andrew Kovács, Thomas Pugh, Bill Jakab, William Mitchell and Albert Honaker. IMPORTANT DECISIONS BRANCH SECRETARIES ATTENTION! As you well know, the Board of Directors of the Verhovay, had their meeting during the past week and brought up many important decisions. In our next issue, we shall publish the minutes of the Board meeting. Until then, we wish to point out certain decisions which have utmost importance. “MEMBERSHIP DRIVE” We have no doubt that it will create undivided interest that the Verhovay will have its third membership drive beginning October 1, 1937. So when you read this news item, the drive will have already begun and it is only up to you whether or not you are among the winners. Among the winners, fifty (50) round trip tickets will be distributed as prizes, so as you can readily see, the nuraof prizes will double in this contest which will run in two different parts. The older ones, getting twenty-five (25) round trip tickets as prizes, will sail with the first V erhovay excursion sometime in the Spring, under the leadership of Mr. Coloman Revesz, Supreme Auditor. The younger group will have more time to compete for the prizes because the contest will last longer. They will sail sometime next Summer. WE HAVE NO DOUBT THAT IT WILL CREATE A GREAT INTEREST AMONG THE MEMBERSHIP, THAT THE YOUNGER GROUP WILL SAIL WITH THE SECOND VERHOVAY EXCURSION IN THE SUMMER OF 1938 UNDER THE PERSONAL LEADERSHIP OF MR. ALBERT B. ARI, OUR DIRECTOR, WHOSE POPULARITY IS WELL KNOWN. The Board decided that in 1938 we shall have two great Verhovay excursions which will consist of twenty-five winners, so that it will be a great opportunity for all those who are intending to go to Hungary next year, to join one of the Verhovay excursions and sail to Hungary under proper guidance. The Hungarian World Congress will take place in Budapest sometime in August of 1938. The Verhovay is officialy invited to this World Congress and the Board decided that our Supreme President, Mr. Joseph Darago would represent the Association there. The desire of the Board is, though, that besides Mr. Darago and Mr. Ari and the twenty-five winners, as many representatives should attend this World Congress as possible and for that reason, he asks every Branch that they should find means to proivde the necessary finances for their own representatives. We hope that each and every English speaking Branch will send their representative to this great occasion. “NEW COMMISSION BASIS” Another important decision was that beginning October 1, 1937, the present commission which is computed on a percentage basis, will be discontinued and every member who secures a new member, for the Verhovay, will be entitled to a commission of four dollars ($4.00) per every $1,000 dollar insurance. The $1.50 which has been paid so far for each and every member as a fee for keeping the member, will be continued. This decision includes not only the Senior but the A-J and C-J Juvenile policies, also. After the Juvenile policies, where the premium is fifteen cents and twenty-five cents per month, the following commission will be paid, eightly-five cents after the fifteen cent policy and $1.50 after the twenty-five cent policy. This new ruling will become effective on all those Senior and Junior members who are taken up on October 1, 1937 or later * and the amount payable, will be paid in two installments, namely, after six and after twelve monthly dues are paid in by the new member. It is vitally important that all those who secure a new member should sign the application because commission will be paid only in that case. Mr. Michael Benedek, member of Branch 395, was recently favored with a farewell party given in his honor by Mrs. Benedek and his fellow Verhovay members. The party was held in St. Stephen’s School Auditorium and was attended by over three hundred people. Refreshments were plentiful and were served by the erstwhile members of our local Branch, 395. Music was furnished by the Rhythm Rascals and dancing was the main diversion of the evening. Michael Benedek gave a farewell address and thanked his many friends and Verhovay members for their fine fellowship and the showing of good brotherly spirit. His departure to attend Notre Dame University, there to study for the priesthood, marked the beginning of a great career for a good Verhovay member. SPORTS A program of sports activities for the coming Fall season was touched upon at our regular monthly meeting. It was decided to form a Bonding League 'composed of both fellows and girls and to take part in all City League competition, with a view to deriving a great deal of publicity through the medium of the sports pages of the local papers. A Ping Pong Club has also been planned for the coming season and has met with the universal approval of all members. Open competition with other clubs in the City, has been planned. A new system of monthly meetings has been inaugurated with the arrival of the hall season. Meetings were so weel attended that the officials were asked to hold four (4) meetings monthly. A business session is to be held once a month and the other three meetings are to be of a social and entertainment nature. The program committee for the month of September consists of the Misses Martha Kanyusik, Helen Goydan, Irene Pasternak, and the Messrs. William Ferency*and Frank Toth. Alexander J. Goydan Secretary Brahch 395. NO SMALL society can afford to offer her membership double indemnity insurance similar to that issued by us.
