The Eucharistic World Congress of 1938 army returned to the country by representatives of the Soviet Union on 23 March 1941; and it was here that the Arrowcross men celebrated their accession to power with a parade in the autumn of 1944. The tradition was resumed after World War 11. On 8 April 1945 the Independent Smallholders’ Party held its first Budapest convention on Heroes’ Square; it was here that the Red Army’s gift of 250 trucks meant to help reconstruction were handed over to the Hungarian National Farmers’ Days, 1946 13
