Prohászka László: Equestrian Statues - Our Budapest (Budapest, 1997)

Dom Quixote in the Expo Centre seated on horseback with his faithful companion Sancho Panza proudly bestriding a donkey. The composition is animated by the interestingly original arrangement of the figures of the riders, who sit side by side, almost touching each other, but staring in opposite directions. Győző Siko- ta is right when saying that “due to the free shadow-play of the geometric planes and the balking of the horse the central figure can gain full dominance.” The unique light effect is enhanced by the material used, as Zoltán Olcsai Kiss’s work was made in the Pécs-based Zsolnay porcelain factory. That is why the Don Quixote is so harmoniously complemented by the ceramic architectural ornaments, also made of Zsolnay ceramic, of the St. László Church opposite the statue. 53
