Prohászka László: Equestrian Statues - Our Budapest (Budapest, 1997)

The TRIGA DECORATING THE KÚRIA BUILDING (ENGRAVING) Senyei was placed. The charging steeds of the triga are driven by a female figure representing the allegory of enlightenment. The genius holds the torch of justice in its right hand and a palm-leaf symbolising peace in its left. Of the three foaming horses, the two on the sides almost rear up, while the one in between points its head earthward in an effort to pull the harder. This triumphal cart of imposing proportions was not cast of bronze, rather it was hammered into copper, by Ármin and Ferenc Steiner. The horses were modelled after the noblest thoroughbreds of the Wulf Circus. Senyei’s beautiful and monumental work has been under reconstruction for years; hopefully, we will not have to wait for much longer before it is placed back where it belongs. After the triga, some bigas, or two-horse carts, can be considered - the ones decorating Budapest’s largest group of public statues, the Millenary Monument in Hősök tere or Heroes’ Square. 14
