13. Getting some Fresh Air - The Buda Hills

13. GETTING SOME FRESH AIR The Buda Hills One of the great things about Budapest is that even within the city boundaries there are many attractive woods and hills, some with fantastic views, which are easy to reach. The following is a selected list of places worth considering for children. Pathways through the hills and woods are usually clearly signposted and give the distance in kilometres and/or the approximate time the walk takes (ó = hour, p = minute). At the time of writing some of these signs display old names, which have changed in recent times (e.g. “Ságvári” instead of the new “Szépjuhászné”). This can be confusing, so be warned! Several of these spots are within walking distance of the Children’s Railway (3). If wandering some distance from a transport stop, a city map is advisable. Alternatively, the Buda Hills Map [Budai-hegység Turistatérképe] is available. “Hill” in Hungarian is “hegy”. Széchenyi Hill [Széchenyi-hegy] See separate entry—upper terminus of the Cog-wheel railway (3).
