Molnár József - Szilas Péter: Night Lights - Our Budapest (Budapest, 1993)

“A properly lit city provides a soothing, embracing environment, where it is pleasant to live. It attracts tourism, improving the quality of life for its citizens and increasing the length and frequency of their opportunities to meet people”-says the proposal for floodlighting the city made by the International Committee for Lighting Technology. And indeed, each well-lit bridge, building or statue has its own, unique charm. The beauty of the Lánchíd, the Parliament Buildings, the Fishermen’s Bastion, and the Mátyás Church awash in light never wears off, even if it has become an integral part of the night time panorama of the city. But it is worthwhile discovering other lights, too. This book provides the reader with a historical survey of Budapest’s public lighting, while the photos of Péter Korniss give a visual account of the city’s lights today. CITY HALL
