The building was extended to the north when, in 1937, a complex (designed by Ferenc Csonka) of several competitive open-air pools was added to the existing indoor facilities. Badly damaged in World War II, the Sports Swimming Pool was rebuilt in 1950. Later, as the existing pools turned out to be insufficient to serve Hungary’s developing competitive swimming, a new pool, one that can be covered with a tent structure, was built next to the indoor one in 1958.
