Földes Mária: Ornamentation - Our Budapest (Budapest, 1993)

No. 36 Nádor ütca, offices of Hungarian TV, PART OF FACADE József nádor tér, but which provide a refreshing sight after the latter. Honvéd utca leaves the square at its north end. No. 3 was completed in 1903 for the industrialist Béla Bedő. Its designer-builder Emil Vidor constructed here an apartment block which is regarded as the most beauti­ful specimen of its kind built during the period around the turn of the century. It is not only as an architectural entity that Vidor created something outstanding, but his inventiveness and his excellent skills are proclaimed by the magnificent interior of the first floor, formerly the residence of the owner, and which is now under govern­ment protection as part of the national applied arts heritage. The consistency of the apartment’s interior reflects the spirit of the turn-of-the-century “Gesamt­kunstwerk”. Only a few can enjoy the privilege of seeing this monument of applied arts preserved as a whole, but 38
