Földes Mária: Ornamentation - Our Budapest (Budapest, 1993)

No. 16 Nádor utca, headquarters of the National Savings Bank (OTP), sculptural decoration on facade some provocative, showy architectural feature to direct the viewer’s attention to the corner, they accentuated it by adding a simple, polygonal oriel window, which went well with the rest of the building, and by raising the gable. The whole surface is finished with a puritanical, even stone covering, which makes for a calm and homogeneous appearance. The unique features of the building are its richly carved, mahogany gate and window frames. The panelling of the bank premises on the ground floor was carved from Brazil nut. The carving, the motifs of which include female figures and floral patterns, evokes the atmosphere of ancient vaults and gateways. The frames radiating a Renaissance kind of beauty are in perfect harmony with the different appeal of the building as a whole, which is considered to be a magnificent specimen of modern architecture. 35
