Földes Mária: Ornamentation - Our Budapest (Budapest, 1993)
decoration is in keeping with the same style. The atmosphere of the building is determined by the brownish- red and grey granite covering of the ground floor and by the huge windows above. The figurative ornaments are hard to recognize at first, as they almost perfectly blend in with the architectural elements. Squatting male figures are squeezed into the spaces beside the glass surfaces in semi-circular casing. Oriel windows, which hardly protrude from the facade, are supported with the great effort of these angular bearded figures. The curved corner surfaces are articulated by geometrically patterned metal plating. By the cornice, at the top of the pilasters dividing the wall, there are some solid, blocklike, bearded male figures, carved out of large plain surfaces, observing the passers-by in the street. The gateway was not made in the stern style of the rest of the building. There are fine, minutely done, graceful figures embossed on brass, including a young man with sword in hand and the finely drawn figure of a woman with a delicate composure welcoming the entrant with NPO. 1 l/B VÁCI UTCA, APARTMENT BUILDING, LION HEADS 19
