Bodor Ferenc: Coffee-Houses - Our Budapest (Budapest, 1992)
Lukács, or the speciality patisserie This is a throwback to the old reactionary world. At one time mysterious legends were spread about its cellars which—or so the well-informed whispers went—were used as tor- turechambers. Its marble tables, cane-backed chairs, hand- wrought lamps—the attention to elaborate detail — all attest to the dependability of old master craftsmen. Tha fact that service is sluggish and the customers too old is of no interest. The Lukács would make a good coffee-house, could serve as a meeting-place for writers and painters. The Pre—1914 atomosphere is enhanced by the range and variety of the menu card. 70 ANDRÁSSY ÚT, VI. LUKÁCS, or the speciality patisserie 24
