Juhász Gyula - Szántó András: Hotels - Our Budapest (Budapest, 1999)

The Hotel Art 8/B Ipoly utca, district XIII), converted from a former industrial plant, the Hotel RÓMAI (No. 16 Szent János út, district III), which used a former party resort house, itself built earlier on the basis of a boat house and an apartment building, the Hotel PAPILLON (No. 3/B Rózsahegy utca, district II), which was once a private residence or the Hotel ART (No. 12 Királyi Pál utca, dis­trict V). The last named establishment, which evokes the atmosphere of Pest apartment houses of old, earned its designers the award Pro Architectura. (A plaque on the wall commemorates the fact that it was in this build­ing that the Bolyai College functioned between 1940 and 1945, to be succeeded by the legendary Györffy College, which was housed here until 1947.) The majority of the city’s pensions were damaged dur­ing the siege of Budapest in 1945.
