The Hotel Park in the 1910s groups of tourists from the Eastern bloc. Due to the rad­ical transformation of the neighbourhood as well as to the changing habits of travellers, the hotel has not been restored to its one-time standard of excellence. The DANÜBKJS Hotel GELLERT No. 1 Szent Gellert tér, district XI Built to plans by Ármin Hegedűs, Izidor Sterk and Artúr Sebestyén, the St Gellért Medicinal Baths and Spa Hotel opened in 1918. There was no exaggeration in this claim made by a brochure in 1926: “The visitor arriving by the Danube in Budapest will be captivated by one of the finest views in the world as the setting sun pours its liquid gold over the myriad of Gothic spires shooting skyward from the building of Parliament, over the ancient tower of Matthias Church and the picturesque contours of the Fishermen’s Bastion and the Royal Castle; next our observer will be charmed by the impressive mass of a building at the foot of Gellért Hill, reminding him of the stately domes of the fabulous Orient.” 37
