Radó Dezső: Parks and Forests - Our Budapest (Budapest, 1992)

The idyllic atmosphere of the Budakeszi Game park Sváb hill and its vicinity This is the most popular hiking and recreation area of Budapest, easily accessible from every direction. On a busy weekend the trails are used by more than 100,000 people per day. Ascending by the cog-wheel railway is rewarded by a magnificent view of the mountains. The lower terminus is located on Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor, opposite the Hotel Budapest. The railway was built in 1874. Initially it operated only up to Sváb Hill, before the line was extended to Széchenyi Hill in 1890. The Children’s Railway built in 1948 is a mere 200 m walk from the Széchenyi Hill terminus. On the left side of the trail leading to the station there is an oak grove with a playground. The Children’s Railway runs 11.1 km from Széchenyi Hill past János Hill and Hárs Hill to the Hűvös Valley. 37
