Meskó Csaba: Thermal Baths - Our Budapest (Budapest, 1999)
Csillaghegy Lido Bath Római lido bath 2 Rozgonyi Piroska utca, District III One of the most beautiful lido baths in Budapest lies on an area of more than 12 acres in the shadow of huge, ancient trees, in the vicinity of the ruined town of Aquincum. The Romans conveyed the lukewarm, 22°C water of the springs here to Aquincum. (The reconstructed aqueduct can be seen lying along today’s Szentendrei út.) Cinder King Matthias there was a hospital on this spot. At the end of the 19th century, the Roman Baths Association was formed. The city donated a large tract of land to this association for the purposes of establishing a resort complex. The lido’s artificial lake draws its water supplies from fourteen springs. Although four of the springs feeding the bathing lake were sunk deeper beneath the surface in 1953, diminishing output necessitated a complete overhaul and modernisation, following which the lido baths was reopened in 1964. Today it is open from May to mid-September with its swimming and bathing pools and children’s play-pool. The double water-chute is an especially great attraction for the lido’s young guests. With this and its comfortable changing cubicles and lockers, Római is mainly considered as a “family” lido. 59
