gaseous water. When the specialist inquiries were concluded, depth drilling commenced in 1932, which resulted in the discovery of water at a temperature of 28°C at a depth of 331 metres. Based on this supply of water, a thermal baths of twelve rooms, containing tub and pool baths was gradually developed. The baths sustained severe damage during the war and reconstruction was only completed in 1956. In the late fifties it came to light that the output of the earlier iodine well was insufficient. A new, 112.10 metre deep well was operational as early as 1957. The temperature of the iodine-saline water brought up by this well was 15°C. The thermal department is open to men and women on alternate days. With its three pools whose water is heated to various temperatures, its dry-air and humid steam chambers it is especially popular with women and senior citizens. Medical and underwater massage is available on doctor’s orders. In the area next to the medicinal baths there is a lido with artificial-wave and children’s pools operating in summer months. On account of its iodine and bromide contents, the bath’s alkaline, chloride-containing mineral water belongs to the group of iodine-bromide medicinal waters. It is recommended for degenerative ailments of the joints, chronic and semi-acute arthritis, The children’s pool 51
