Later fashions In this period the creators of Budapest’s ornamental fountains had a predilection for narrative scenes in a folkloric style, which dominated the genre for a long time. It is worth quoting some of the titles which were given to the entries in the competition for designing the Millacher fountain. Such names as “Easter Water Sprinkling”, “Toldi Fights the Wolves”, “The Student Wizard”, or “Just You Wait, Bözse”, talk for them­selves. The genre sculptures featuring scenes in which water plays some kind of role can be put in virtually the same category. Such are the bronze statuette by Károly Senyei, which features some children pouring water into a gopher hole, János Horvay’s The Folk Song (in Erzsébet tér), Boy Catching Crab by Miklós Ligeti (by the waterfall on Margaret Island), and Chicken Thief by György Kiss (at the corner of József körút and Krúdy utca). These are all still existing characteristic features of Budapest, even though some have been moved from their original places and the fountain of The Peace, or Pauline, Fountain 43
