Budapest, City of Baths

...and the Helia Thermal baths Király Baths Király (Royal) baths is perhaps the most beautiful monument of the Turkish era. Arslan, pasha of Buda, had it constructed in 1565. A new wing was added to its several dome building in 1826. It was given its name not after its royal guests but after its owners, the König family. Its thermal water contains a high level of calcium, magnesium, chlorine, sulphate, alkaloid, and flouride. Its four pools are open to ladies only on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and men only on the other days of the week. Open: Monday to Saturday: 6.30 am to 6 pm. Closed on Sundays. (Address: 1027 Budapest, ii, Fő u. 84. Tel.: 202-3688) Lukács Baths Lukács Baths were also known under the Turkish occupation. Its building was built in classicist style during the last century. It is specially interesting that the remnants of a late medieval gunpowder mill were built into the walls of the baths. Next to the entrance hundreds of marble plaques bearing thanksgiving notes have been placed by cured patients. Its waters are best for curing orthopaedic diseases. 41
