Although it was built a hundred and twenty years ago, it was extensively renovated a few years ago. Underground passages link this hotel with the heal­ing section and thermal baths of the Thermal Hotel. The two hotels cater for seven hundred patients daily. (Address: Budapest, Margitsziget. Tel.: iimooo) We would like to mention two other thermal hotels built on the two banks of the Danube a year or two ago. They also get their thermal water from the island through pipelines embedded in the bed of the Danube, therefore their clientele and methods are similar. Thermal Hotel Aquincum This elegant, five-storey, all-glass hotel overlooking Mar­garet Island and the Buda Hills was opened in May 1991. A Hungarian-German joint enterprise, this was the first purely “capitalist” venture in medicinal tourism. It provides services equal to its counterpart on the island, including a sauna, a swimming pool, technical equipment and medical services. They offer one to three week holidays for foreigners mainly, every hour scheduled. It is worth perhaps mentioning their beauty treatment. Ladies are promised that after a seven day treatment they leave more beautiful and younger than ever, thanks to their high quality cosmetic, massage, manicure and other treatments. It is by no means cheap, however. This book is largely unconcerned with prices, we would, however, like to make an exception here: six nights including full board in single bed rooms cost over two thousand German Marks.
