present-day breweries. The Óhegy (Old Hill) was covered by large vineyards, whose owner, József Havas, experimented with cognac production. In 1856 he had built a little Neo-Classic villa (designed probably by Károly Hild), from where he directed his estates. The villa with portico and columns still exists (X, Halom utca 42). ln 1859 Havas sold his vineyards to Jakab Perlmutter, who was engaged in beer production. In 1862 the whole area with some buildings was bought from him by Antal Dreher, who in a short time developed the original small works into a large brewery complex.
