The Synagogue in Vasvári Pál utca

trum on the balustrade towards the Arch is an Art Nouveau arc of white marble with the Hebrew words of the priestly blessing inscribed in it. The complex was enlarged over time inside as well as outside. The resulting appearance of spontaneous growth, together with the modest proportions, creates the intimate character of this prayer-house. The Synagogue in Vasvári Pál utca This, too is a building in a courtyard, which originally rose above two single-storey houses clearly visible from the street. Two storeys and a large gateway were added to the houses in the late 19th century. The synagogue is now a building with a porch standing in the enclosed space of an interior courtyard reminding one of the old Judenhcf-style architecture. On the street front of the plot on a U-shaped ground-plan was built a five-axis, two-storey residential house in historicist style. The apartment block is aligned with the synagogue—their fagades are decorated with bevelled bricks shaped in Oriental fashion. ■ The synagogue in Vasvári Pál utca. the main, courtyard, facade 45
