Witness Square Since its opening, the Statue Park has had 250,000 visitors. The professional success as well as the unfinished status of the park (missing architectural elements, the lack of landscape gardening in its environment, and the absence of auxiliary establishments) have prodded the designer to seek ways of concluding the project, which was discontinued when the Budapest World Expo was cancelled. Although he has spent years peddling the idea, the second phase of the original plan has still not been implemented in the absence of the funds required. However, things have been looking up recently and construction work, financed by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, was due to commence in 2002. As a result, a complex of buildings thema­tically and spatially connected to the Statue Park can be raised. The complex will be called Witness Square.
