■ King Matthiaó the Juit scholars and artists, the Matthias Corvinus Society was established on 3 April 1920, in Buda. While naming the association was a matter of contention that continued for quite some time, the aims of the association were beyond dispute. It was accepted by the entire membership that "patriotism'’ motivated them all and that they intended to "reach back to the Hunyadi era", a period they believed to have been neglected. In accordance with the prevailing cultural policies of the time, their objective was to cultivate the memory of Hungary's national monarch. With Count Gyula Andrássy Jr. acting as Honorary Chairman at the outset, the association was chaired by the literary historian Jenő Pintér.
