■ King Matthiaó the Juit scholars and artists, the Matthias Corvinus Society was established on 3 April 1920, in Buda. While naming the association was a matter of contention that continued for quite some time, the aims of the association were beyond dis­pute. It was accepted by the entire membership that "patriotism'’ motivated them all and that they intended to "reach back to the Hunyadi era", a period they believed to have been neglected. In accordance with the prevailing cul­tural policies of the time, their objective was to cultivate the memory of Hun­gary's national monarch. With Count Gyula Andrássy Jr. acting as Honorary Chairman at the outset, the association was chaired by the literary historian Jenő Pintér.
