Bajza, Vörösmarty and Fáy. ln partnership with Fáy, he directed the Hun- garian Theatre Company of Buda from 1833—34. Fie collected and published the early records of the Hungarian language, which led him to the discovery of a Hungarian-language liturgical manuscript of the Premonstrant order (1508), a document that came to be called Döbrentei Codex after its discoverer. He also edited an almanac and his contributions to the body of children's and juvenile literature are also significant. His literary translations reveal his sometimes curious notions about linguistic reform, exemplified by his rendering of the name of Moliére’s Harpagon as Tightwadton. He found or coined Hungarian words to replace "mixed terms of foreign origin” and censured Kazinczy for his use of Latin-, French- and German-sounding expressions for which he regarded the latter as an "imitator of foreign fads”.
