■ The Newyork Palace work of the already renowned architect Alajos Hauszmann (1847-1926), Flóris Korb and Kálmán Giergl that the jury found best. The decision was met with controversy in professional circles, and the designers of the turreted palace described as an eclectic mix of styles were even charged with plagiarism. Discernible on the building are features of several period styles from to the Empire to the Renaissance and the Rococo. The challenging work of construction was overseen by the Beschorner Company who employed the best practitioners of the various trades involved. Sculptural decoration was made by sculptors Károly Senyei, Miklós Köllő and Antal Szabó, the lead glass windows by Gedeon Walther, and the panel paintings by Gusztáv Magyar Mannheimer and Ferenc Eisenhut. The innumerable mirror windows were delivered by Forgó and Co. The palace was completed by 1894. "In terms of luxury, there is no other building in Budapest that bears comparison with this,” wrote 50
