CHURCHES; TOWERS; DOMES The watchtower of Pest's firemen the tower of the Theresa Town Parish Church No. 2 Pethö Sándor utca, District VI Its foundation stone laid in 1803, the church standing at the corner of Király utca and Nagymező utca was consecrated in 1809. The spire of the church, designed in late Baroque style by Fidél Kasselik, is the work of Miklós Ybl. In the niche of the tower itself was inserted in 1811 the sculpture of the district’s patron saint St. Theresa, sculpted by Lőrinc Dunaiszky. Due to the fires frequently breaking out at the time, a banister balcony was built around the body of the tower for the fire brigade; the neighbourhood was kept under constant surveillance from this observation post, which also enabled the firemen to keep in touch with the other observation posts of the city. ■ The Thereto Town pariih church 37
