Funeral Art in the Second Half of the 20th Century

■ Sándor Rétfalvi: János Pilinszky'i tomb the 1980s on the one hand, and with his Christ-figure guarding the memory of János Sziveri (F new6) or his miniature theatrical stage adorning Béla Timár’s tomb (F 2/8) from the early nineties on the other. Of the figurái pieces, mention must be made of Erzsébet Schaár's only funer­al monument set up in Budapest: József Turóczi-Trostler’s tomb from 1964 (F 20 circus). Márta Lesenyei added two pieces to the row of artists' tombs representing the creative act with her monuments on the graves of Róbert Berény (F 21/1) and Noémi Ferenczy (K 34/2). Belonging to the more impres­sive works are Gábor Devecseri's monument by Tamás Fekete (F 25), Emília Márkus’s by Júlia Tóth (K 33), Pongrác Galsai's by Ferenc Nemes (F 22/1), and Gábor Lükő's by Zoltán Varga (K 33/1). Of Iván Szabó’s works, mention must be made of the tombstones made for the Hont (F 25) and the Réti (F 25) graves, and of András Koczoghs the Cserés (F 36/1) and the Koczogh (F 6/15) monu­ments as fine examples of funeral sculpture carved into wood.
