The Church of the Holy Spirit, 1943

■ View of the church from the weit flanked by narrow aisles, is divided by six pairs of reinforced concrete pillars, and the triumphal arch of the chancel ending in a flush closure comprised a pointed arch rising dynamically from the raised floor. The picture (by Géza Po­gány) on the back wall of the chancel shows the descent of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2.1). Three buildings add further spaces to the church; the one devoted to the Virgin Mary is decorated with Masa Feszty's painting Patronen oh Hun­gary. The furnishings of the church were designed by Lechner himself. The two, large, round lights on the ceiling are similar to the ones designed by the architect for the Coronation Church in Buda Castle for the coronation of Charles VI in 1916. The inscription on the baptismal font carved into Süttö marble reads: Except A MAN BE BORN AGAIN [OF THE HOLY SPIRIT AND WATER], HE CANNOT ENTER INTO THE KINGDOM of God (Jn. 3.3).
