Város a Duna partján - történeti áttekintés

Apart from the collection of the Pest County Archives, we chose from the material of several public and private collections, such as: Péter Cservenák (Vác), Museum of Tragor Ignác (Vác), Episcopal and Collegiate Archives of Vác and the Museum of Zemplén (Szerencs). We would like to acknowledge their help, for they unselfishly made their treasure available to us. We would like to especially thank Péter Cservenák, who aided our work with special data. Our aim with the publication of the book was similar to the first postcard publishers', that is, to forward the reputation of our town to the world, to make it known here and abroad as well. At that time there was not any news release equalling the present one, spanning over country borders. Apart from the press matters hardly reaching far-away regions, only the picture postcards provided visible information in an enjoyable form. While acquaintances, friends or relatives wrote a few lines to those who lived far away, they willy-nilly introduced a sequence of their town, of the local inhabitants. That's why picture postcards were suitable to make far-away people, who would probably never get the chance to visit us, form a favourable picture about us. Postcards could aid not only acquainting, but also arousing interest in us. The rich history of the town grasped the imagination of many people, who wrote many things about its past. Herewith we are increasing the number of books on local history. We hope that the 2 nd volume of the Treasury of Vác will provide the reader with an interest arousing work. It will suit the expectations of both those who only want to delight on photos, recalling the past, and of those too who want to expand their knowledge of the town. Comenius drew his contemporaries' attention in his masterpiece "Orbis Pictus" to the fact that the importance of presenting the world as "written in pictures" is to "captivate the mind". Our aim is similar to Comenius': we would like to captivate locals and guests alike, to make them better acquainted with the town, to make them love it more. These pictures are warning us at the same time, of how beautiful the town was, and that it is worth creating such beauty or a greater one for ourselves. Therefore we trust that those who live here permanently, or spend only a couple of hours in the town, will practically benefit from the book.
