EXCURSIONS AROUND THE TOWN 287 Kisoroszi.................................................. Kisoroszi is situated on the northern end of the 31-km-long Szentendre Island. It is a preservation area belonging to the Dan­­ube-lpoly National Park. Sights: Ervin Baktay Western Museum in the community centre presenting the oeuvre of the orientalist, writer and translator Ervin Baktay, Lying Bison by his Indian name Programmes: Danube Holiday (first weekend of July) camping, bathing Ervin Baktay Western Museum vintage feast (third Saturday of September) Tahitótfalu Tahitótfalu consists of two parts: the older settlement, Tótfalu is on the island, while Tahi is on the river bank. In the Middle Ages Slovak farmers arrived at Tótfalu, hence the settlement was named "tót" (a common name for Slovaks). Due to its protected situation the village did not suffer heavy losses during the Otto­man era. Besides sailing, mills and fishing grape-growing and viticulture were of great importance. The bridge linking the two parts of the settlement had been finished by 1914, its present form was built in 1978. Tahi has been settled gradually since the 19th century, mostly by well-to-do people from the capital city. Mihály Pol­lack, the outstanding master of Hungarian Classicist architecture also lived here. His house is still standing in the village. He rests in the local Catholic cemetery below the tomb designed by his student, Miklós Ybl. The largest open-air bath and swimming pool of the region was built on the 40-degree-Celsius thermal water found here. The fields of the settlement belong to the Danube-lpoly National Park.
