248 SIGHTSEEING DEÁKVÁR ("STUDENTS'CASTLE") This district was established at the beginning of the loth century on the hilly area beyond the railway that used to be occupied by gardens and vineyards. It was named after the students playing and building castles in the clay pit here. The parcelling of the clayish-sandy, hilly area was initiated by a local arts teacher, Mihály Bauer. In this initial period there were nice villas and detached houses built in the centre. In the second half of the century the popularity of Deákvár further increased due to the prohibition of constructions downtown; besides the first housing estate of the town was built here for the settlers attracted by the industrial factories offering them job opportunities.
