There is a standing cell - which can hold a person only standing up - and a dark cell as well. Today they serve as the unbelievable sceneries of film shoots. The history of law enforcement is going to be displayed at an exhibition in this part of the building. Some of the notable captives of the prison were the authors Tibor Déry and Árpád Göncz, the historians Bálint Hóman, István Bibó and Domokos Kosáry, and the politicians Mátyás Rákosi and János Kádár. The building can be visited with the preliminary permission of the warden. It was a place for brief detainments imposed for “gentlemanly misdemeanours”such as duel or libel. However, it was famous for its leniency; rumour had it that the inmates were allowed to have dinner and musicians brought, and on their return from leave they had to bang on the door to get in if the doorkeeper had fallen asleep. One of the best Hungarian novelists, Ferenc Herczeg, also spent a few months in this prison for duel. He started to write novels here. During the course of his incarceration he grew to like the town so much so that later he moved to Vác and lived here for some years. The Monument of 1956 by György Seregi at the side of the prison
