188 SIGHTSEEING FEAST DAYS OF THE VIRGIN MARY At the beginning of the 20th century Along the path leading from the town towards the church there is a row of columns with picture insets. They were built with the donation of a widow in 1738. The place of pilgrimage in Máriavölgy again served as a model for them. Originally the pictures depicted the seven sorrows and seven joys of the Virgin Mary, but later they were replaced by the Mysteries of the Rosary. The regular renovation of the paintings and the buildings is financed by the grants of pious families and villages who come here on pilgrimage.
