1« too, to the grand and beautiful examples we see in the past of our forefathers as well as in the present of the household of our faith. Let us consider, that God gives us the sunshine, the dew and rain that the continual work of nature should not stop ; but we must sow ourselves if we want to reap and we must graft ourselves if we will gather genuine fruit. By the goodwill of God we have a fatherland, we have also a church with which our heart may well be pleased to-day and the future of which gives us good hope. But if we wish our joy to be permanent and that we may not be disappointed in our hope, we must also do our duty faithfully towards the one as well as towards the other. * And especially concerning our church, on this occasion we must act, like the sailors, when the winds are favourable, unfurl their sails, so let us make use of the good opportunity in the interest of the little ship of our church. For let people form an opinion of the religion of future in what way they may please, my deep conviction is that, at least, at present, the strongest root of it is to be found in our simple religion. I do not wish to state by this, that the whole world will become Unitarian for we have not converted all hu­manity even to the Christian religion during 2000 years. But I do not believe, that I would err, if I were to state that in fact there are a great many more Unitarians even now than we can show in our year books or put into statistics.
