Words of preface.

As soon as the celebration of the millennial jubilee of the Hungarian State was decided upon, the Uni tarians of Hungary expressed a desire, to make this an occasion for the fraternal intercourse of the Hungarian and Foreign Unitarians. The enthusiastic bishop of the Hungarian Church, Joseph Ferencz accepted the idea, gave shape to it, and at the opening of the Jubilee year, he made a proposition to that effect at the meeting of the Representative Consistory of the Unitarian Church, held at Kolozsvár on the 9-th of January. The Consistory carried the proposition and consequently decided that Whitsunday shall be made a millennial Jubilee-Sunday in each congregation, when there will be held religious services, in order that all the members may offer thanks to God for His grace of keeping our country through one thonsaud years, and pray His help and protection for the future. At the same time the members of our churches were encouraged to make the year memorable by giving donations, or laying funds to their congregations. Besides a Millennial Memorial-fund was started with the intention that it should increase in time to a considerable sum, in order that the gymnasium at Torda, where religious liberty was first proclaimed, should be reestab-
