The Eighth Hungarian Tribe, 1987 (14. évfolyam, 1-8. szám)

letters Dear Editor; Thank you for the March/April issue of the Hungarian Eighth Tribe Foundation Newsletter. The information contained is very interesting, especially on the special education course being offered in the Hungarian language. There is one item I wish to note relative to the Hungarian language, and to the English version of translations of stories and poetry. Briefly, they never translate well (going from one language into another language). The Poem “Rise Magyar—Talpra Magyar” by Sándor Petőfi requires the Hungarian side by side with the English translation, as well as a ‘brief History of the poem’. Every community in Hungary has a street or a square named in honor of Sándor Petőfi to this day. It is necessary to include some history of the poem and the person for this reason. The reason for Poetry Translating with difficulty has to do with the expressive use of words in a native tongue. As an example, I am sure in your travels you have been served in a American restaurant Hungarian Goulash made of hamburgers and noodles. The translation of thoughts is somewhat malagous. Sincerely, Alex J. Szecsody Tempe, Arizona Dear Mr. Comos; I wish to continue my membership without interruption or to miss any publication, I hereby enclose my check for the amount of $10.00.
