Box 637, Ligonier, PA 15658 - (Tel.: 412-834-0169) MARCH/APRIL, 1986 To Members and Friends of the Hungarian Eighth Tribe Foundation: First of all, we wish to thank you for renewing your Membership, for your Donations, and for your supporting, encouraging letters to further the work of the Hungarian Eighth Tribe Foundation. In my last editorial, in the November 1985 issue of the Eighth Hungarian Tribe magazine, I explained how the Hungarian Eighth Tribe Foundation came to be. In Article II, paragraph :b: of the Charter it states: Establish and maintain a Hungarian Cultural and Educational Institute in Ligonier. Pennsylvania. People have asked us why we want another museum type building in Ligonier since the Bethlen Home has that project in the works. We do not. The Foundation was established to support such a project. In 1977, when the Bethlen Home Orphanage was offered for sale, many of us considered saving that building for the project, but some church leaders had different ideas. No common ground could be found and the building was sold and forever lost to Hungarian-Americans. The project was kept alive by the Bethlen Home, and the HETF still supports it since the Bethlen Home has the support of Hungarian-Americans of both Christian faiths. While the Orphanage was in operation it took care of both Catholic and Protestant children, and that policy is pursued today by the Old Age Home. The other question we were confronted with was: Why do you want a Cultural Institute In Ligonier when Dr. Ágoston Molnár is already building one in New Brunswick, New Jersery. We were bombarded with letters from New Jersey and locally to donate to the New Brunswick project. The church papers and the Fraternity have asked us to donate to the Ligonier project. We can do justice to only one. We would appreciate hearing your opinion on this subject.—Another problem disturbing people is finding the same church leaders on the Boards of both projects. They do not understand, and neither can I, how one can be effectively active in two projects so similar. It is hard to do justice to both and both projects are wothwhile in their own way. HUNGARIAN EIGHTH TRIBE FOUNDATION CONFERENCE - - We are considering scheduling the Conference for August 30 of this year. That would be the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. With this date, one might schedule to take off a few days from work, using Sunday or Monday to return home. Input from members on the suitability of this date would be appreciated. * * * In the last Newsletter we mentioned our "New Project" - We have designed a three color (red, white, green) vinyl bumper sticker with the words "Hungarian Eighth Tribe". Cost is $2.00 each. Please let us know if you wish to order one, two or more. We need at least 100 orders before we can place our order with the company. Presently we have 20 orders. * * * We call your attention to our Book Sale on Hungarian History and others. We have had inquiries and orders for back issues of the Eighth Tribe magazine. We have copies available, some dating to 1975. Some issues, however, are missing. Cost is 25$ per copy, and postage.
